Infant Milk Formulas: Effect of Storage Conditions on the Stability of Powdered Products towards Autoxidation
Thirty samples of powdered infant milk formulas containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been stored at four different temperatures (20, 28, 40 and 55 °C) and periodically monitored for their malondialdehyde (MDA) content up to one year. MDA levels ranged between 250 and 350 ng/kg in sealed samples with a maximum of 566 ng/kg in samples stored at 28 °C for three weeks after opening o...
متن کاملHigh aluminium content of infant milk formulas.
The aluminium content of several commercially available infant milk formulas was measured by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry. Results were compared with those for fresh breast milk, cow's milk, and local tap water. Differences in aluminium concentration of greater than 150-fold were found, with the lowest concentrations in breast milk.
متن کاملDetermination of iodine in human milk and infant formulas.
The aim of this study was to develop a method to determine iodine in human milk and infant formulas using ICP-MS. The milk samples were digested using an alkaline digestion (5% NH(3), 45 W, 2 min and 30s), and the method was validated using a certified reference material (CRM) BCR CRM151. On the other hand the milk was separated in three fractions, whey, fat and caseins using ultracentrifugatio...
متن کاملPolyamines in human and rat milk and in infant formulas.
Polyamines are ubiquitous compounds known to be involved in cell proliferation and differentiation in many tissues. Enteral administration of these compounds has been shown to produce effects in suckling and adult animals. Using HPLC techniques, we verified the presence of putrescine, spermidine, and spermine in human milk and quantitated their concentration in samples collected from the first ...
